- Union documents show that Cadillac will build its XT5 SUV in its current form until 2027
Not long ago, the Cadillac XT5 seemed set to disappear soon. General Motors had reportedly canceled production of its midsize luxury SUV, along with the gas-powered version of the Chevy Blazer, with which it shares many parts.
But, with the federal government’s $7,500 electric vehicle (EV) tax credit now set to disappear this fall, GM reversed course, promising that both gas-powered midsize SUVs would see another year.
A new report says the XT5 could continue into 2027. The Detroit Free Press, citing a document sent to the United Auto Workers, reports that GM will produce the SUV largely unchanged, possibly for two more model years.
Car & Driver notes that Cadillac builds a newer, more advanced gas-powered XT5 for the Chinese market, but not for the U.S.
A GM spokesperson told C&D, “We look forward to launching the next-gen XT5 in the second half of 2027,” so the U.S. may see that model eventually.
