Volvo is recalling about 17,500 XC40 compact SUVs from model year 2024 because their left rear turn signals may not function.
Volvo tells federal safety regulators that software may misinterpret use of the turn signal as causing a short circuit and shut down the left rear turn signal to prevent an electrical problem. The company says it is not aware of any accidents caused by the issue.
Owners won’t need to bring the cars in for repair. A simple software update can fix the issue. Since the XC40 can receive software updates over the air, Volvo says, the company will send the update remotely.
Recall repairs, by law, are free. Many cars are recalled, often more than once, during their lifespans.
