Volkswagen has recalled 837 examples of its ID.4 electric SUV from model years 2023 and 2024 because their passenger airbags may not inflate properly.
The company tells federal safety officials that the airbag inflator (the device that inflates the bag in an accident) may be out of position because of missing or misaligned screws.
Volkswagen is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem, which was discovered by a factory worker.
Dealers will inspect the screws and replace or tighten them if necessary to fix the problem.
