Toyota and its Lexus luxury brand have issued a recall for 84,000 2022 Tundra pickups and Lexus NX compact SUVs because their parking brakes can fail, causing the vehicles to roll away while parked.
The recall has not yet been filed with federal safety regulators, so we don’t have details on how many complaints may have been received. Toyota says it will notify owners through the mail next month.
The problem appears to be a software defect. The two vehicles share an electronic parking brake. In some circumstances, Toyota says, it does not engage properly. Dealers will fix the problem with an update to the skid control program in the vehicles’ electronic control units.
