Recall Alert: Toyota Corolla Cross

2022 Toyota Corolla CrossToyota has issued a recall for about 96,000 Corolla Cross SUVs from model years 2022 and 2023 because their passenger-side airbags might not deploy properly in an accident.

Airbags are designed to deploy out of particular gaps and splits in interior paneling. Toyota tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that some Corolla Cross SUVs may lack a perforation in the dashboard meant to allow the passenger-side airbag to deploy.

“Toyota conducted testing to determine the effect of no perforation in the instrument panel on airbag opening,” the company says. The results showed that “the airbag deployed in a manner that was different than the intended design.” It might not properly cushion passengers in an accident.

So, dealers will inspect the panel and, if it’s lacking the perforation, replace it.
