Recall Alert: Subaru Warns Some 2021 Impreza Owners to Stop Driving

A small number of 2021 Subaru Imprezas may have a very dangerous defect. Subaru issued a recall alert affecting just 802 Imprezas. But the notice asks all Impreza owners to check whether their vehicle is part of the recall population and, if so, to stop driving it immediately.

Owners should contact Subaru, which will arrange to send a technician to inspect the car or tow the car to a dealership for a safety inspection. If needed, the repair is free.

The vehicles may have a left lower front control arm that isn’t properly welded to the crossmember that supports it. If the weld fails, the driver could lose control of their car.

Subaru can identify whether a vehicle may have the problem based on its VIN. As few as 8% of that group may actually have a bad weld. But the company will need to inspect all of them.

So, it is asking 2021 Impreza owners to call Subaru’s customer service at 844-373-6614 or get in touch with a local dealership. If your car is part of the recall list, dealers will inspect the weld and replace the components if necessary.

Subaru will get in touch with owners through the mail and via phone beginning today.
