Recall Alert: Rivian R1S, R1T Side Curtain Airbags

Rivian has recalled 1,723 R1S SUVs and R1T pickups from model years 2022 through 2024 because their side curtain airbags may not deploy properly in an accident.

The company told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that technicians may have removed inner trim pieces covering the side pillars during service and reused them instead of replacing them with new trim pieces. “Removal and reuse may result in damage to the attachment clips that secure the trim panel to the pillar,” the company says.

That could keep the side curtain airbags from deploying as designed. The company is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem.

Rivian will fix the issue by replacing the trim panels with new parts.

As with all recall repairs, the fix is free. Manufacturers attempt to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all with the news. Find out if your car has ever been recalled at our recall center.
