Porsche has issued a recall for 2,475 Cayenne SUVs from model year 2024 because their front axle upper left control arms can break, leading to a loss of steering control. The company believes as few as nine vehicles may be affected, but it can’t identify the specific ones. So, to be safe, it plans to repair every Cayenne built within a certain date range.
Porsche tells federal car safety regulators that a supplier may have provided nine “out of specification” parts that factory workers unknowingly installed. They “may break under heavy dynamic load.”
The company says the problem is theoretical – it knows of no reports of broken control arms. But it has learned of a forging defect at a supplier’s factory. Porsche wants to replace the parts to prevent a problem.
Dealers will replace the front axle upper left control arm of every Cayenne built within the suspect period to ensure that it removes the potentially faulty parts from the road.
By law, recall repairs are always free.
Automakers try to reach every owner with recall notices, but some always slip through the cracks. That leaves millions of Americans driving cars with safety defects they could get repaired free of charge. Find out if your car has any unaddressed recalls at our recall center.
