Mercedes-Benz is recalling about 26,000 2019-2021 G550 and 2019-2021 AMG G63 SUVs because wear on a wiring harness could compromise their anti-lock brakes and electronic stability programs.
In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Mercedes explains that a front axle wiring harness can contact an auxiliary oil cooler and chafe. That might cause wear to the wiring.
The company is not aware of any accidents related to the problem. Technicians discovered it when several owners brought the G-Wagens in due to an unexplained BS and ESP indicator lamp in the instrument cluster. But the company says a problem “cannot be ruled out.” So it plans to fix the problem.
Dealers will inspect the harness, replace any worn parts, then install a protective sleeve to prevent contact between the parts. As always with recalls, the repair is free.
