Electric vehicle (EV) maker Lucid has recalled about 1,300 examples of its Air sedan from model years 2022 through 2023 because their rear seat heaters can overheat seats.
The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “If a vehicle is in a mode in which rear seat heater temperature is unmonitored, a rear seat heater is left on, a rear seat belt is buckled, and pressure is applied to the rear seat, the rear seat heater could continue to heat the rear seat and cause discoloration or charring of the seat surface.”
The company doesn’t specify which “seat.”
Lucid is aware of no injuries related to the problem. They found out about it when a customer reported a charred rear seat. Car seat. The material of the car’s seat was charred. We’ve overdone this point, haven’t we?
Thankfully, Lucid can fix the problem with a remote software update. The company says a remote software update caused it – a recent update to the vehicle’s operating system inadvertently removed the controls that keep the seats from overheating. If your Lucid runs an operating system version from 2.1.0 to 2.1.20, your car may have the issue.
Version 2.1.26 will fix it. Lucid can push that update out automatically to some customers. The company asks those who have turned off automatic updates to “update their software as soon as possible.”
