Recall Alert: Lucid Air

fastest-charging electric carsStartup Lucid Motors began delivering its luxurious Air electric vehicle (EV) late last year. Now, it’s headed in for its first free defect repair.

The recall applies to 203 cars in total. Those built after January 9, 2022, are not included.

While many recalls involve minor features, this is a defect that could lead to an accident, and owners will want to deal with it right away. A snap ring on the front strut damper can fail, causing part of the car’s front suspension to collapse and suddenly lower ride height. Because of where it’s located, the incident could theoretically snap the front brake line, rendering the brakes less effective.

Lucid says that a part supplier notified it of the risk. The company is not aware of any parts failing on customer vehicles.

Lucid will contact owners to arrange for free repairs. Satellite service centers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the front strut dampers.
