Kia has recalled 14,163 EV9 electric SUVs from model years 2024 and 2025 because their driver’s instrument panels can go blank. Kia will fix the problem with an over-the-air software update, so owners won’t need to bring the cars in for repair.
Kia tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that a software error can leave the driver’s screen blank at startup. Without it, the driver can’t see their speed or critical safety warnings.
The problem involves software, so Kia can fix it with software. Manufacturers are still legally obligated to tell owners about a recall through the mail. So, EV9 owners can expect a notice in their mailbox telling them that the problem existed and that it has been fixed.
By law, recall repairs are free. Many cars are recalled, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Find out whether your car has any outstanding recalls with the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
