Recall Alert — Hyundai Santa Fe, Sonata Hybrid, Veloster

Hyundai has issued a recall notice for about 129,000 cars, including the 2012 Santa Fe, 2011-2013 and 2016 Sonata Hybrid, and the 2015-2016 Veloster.

The recall comes thanks to connecting rod bearings in the engine that may wear out prematurely and fail. It can potentially lead to an engine fire or a stall at speed. Dealers will inspect the bearings, and if necessary, replace them free of charge. They will also install a new Knock Sensor Detection System. This software update will monitor vibration to detect premature wear and alert drivers.

Notifications will go out in January. In the meantime, owners should report any abnormal knocking noises, reduced power, hesitation, burning smell, oil leaks, smoke, or a check engine or oil pressure light coming on.
