Hyundai and Kia have recalled 1,870 vehicles because a short circuit can leave them without power steering.
Recalled models include the:
- 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz
- 2024 Hyundai Tucson
- 2024 Kia Sportage
The companies tell federal safety officials at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), “The circuit board in the motor-driven power steering assembly may short circuit, resulting in a loss of power steering assist.” Drivers can still steer the vehicles without power steering, but the effort required to turn them will change suddenly. That could contribute to an accident.
Dealers will replace electronic components in the power steering rack to correct the problem.
By law, recall repairs are free. Many cars are recalled, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner, but they don’t always reach them all. Find out whether your car has any outstanding recalls with the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
