Honda is recalling more than 330,000 vehicles with heated side mirrors because the mirror glass can detach and fall off. That reduces rearward visibility and could contribute to an accident.
Recalled models include the following:
- 2020-2021 Honda Pilot
- 2020-2021 Honda Ridgeline
- 2020-2022 Honda Odyssey
- 2020-2022 Honda Passport
In documents filed with federal car safety officials, Honda explains that the tape holding the glass on can “lose adhesion” and detach from its backing plate. The recall notice doesn’t say whether this happens more often if you use the heating feature regularly, so it may not be melting. It may just be a case of weak tape.
Dealers will replace both mirror holder assemblies with an “improved part.” The company doesn’t say whether that means stronger tape or a mirror that attaches with plastic snap posts like some cars use.
