Honda and its Acura luxury division have issued a recall for about 124,000 vehicles because their brakes can fail suddenly.
Included in the recall are some, but not all, examples of the:
- 2020 Acura MDX
- 2020-2021 Honda Civic
- 2020-2023 Honda Ridgeline
- 2021-2022 Honda Pilot
- 2021-2023 Honda Passport
The company tells federal safety regulators that two parts in the braking system — the brake master cylinder and brake booster assembly — may not have been properly connected. If they separate from each other, “the driver may experience diminished, or loss of, brake function.”
The company “does not believe a warning can occur.”
Thankfully, Honda says it is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to the issue and has received just two warranty claims over it.
Dealers will inspect the braking system to see if the parts are connected properly, connect them correctly if they are not, and replace any suspect parts.
