Recall Alert: GMC Hummer EV

2022 GMC Hummer EVGMC has issued a recall alert affecting every Hummer EV built before January 20. Thankfully, there are exactly 10 such vehicles on the planet. A GMC representative tells us the company was in touch with all owners, and made repairs, before the recall was even posted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website.

The problem is an urgent one — a software defect can keep the tail lights — including brake lights, reverse lights, and turn signals — from illuminating or leave them illuminated permanently. Either condition could cause an accident, as drivers behind the Hummer couldn’t tell what the vehicle was doing.

The suspect software is embedded in the tail lamp units themselves. So, GMC dealers will correct it by replacing the entire taillight assembly.
