Genesis has issued a recall affecting just 168 copies of its 2023 GV60 electric vehicle because their front passenger-side seat belts may not function properly.
Genesis tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the automatic locking retractor on the belts “can remain locked after initial engagement.” That could prevent passengers from extending the seatbelt far enough to fasten it.
Genesis is aware of at least two warranty claims when customers brought cars into dealerships because their seat belts wouldn’t extend. A supplier told Genesis that “the recovered seatbelts came from a suspect lot that had been reworked postproduction.” Genesis has decided to inspect that entire lot of seatbelts. Production records tell the company exactly which cars received them.
Dealers will “inspect and replace front passenger side seat belt, if necessary,” the company says.
