Ford and its Lincoln luxury division have issued a recall for more than 380,000 SUVs because their backup cameras can suddenly stop working.
The recall affects the following:
- 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair
- 2020-2023 Ford Explorer
- 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator
In documents filed with federal safety authorities, Ford explains that the rearview camera may fail to display “during some key cycles.” Turning the car off and back on will sometimes temporarily correct the problem, but after it has happened once, it tends to happen to the same vehicle intermittently.
Dealers can fix the problem with a software update to the image processing module. But these vehicles don’t receive over-the-air updates, so owners will have to bring them into the dealership for the software patch.
Software updates tend to be among the quickest repairs a dealer can perform.
