Ford has recalled about 345,000 small SUVs due to possible oil leaks that could lead to an engine fire. The recall applies to 2020-2022 Ford Escape and 2021-2022 Ford Bronco Sport models, but only to those equipped with 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engines.
The engine oil separator housing of these models is prone to cracking, which can lead to oil leaking on hot engine components. Customers might notice an oily smell or see smoke coming from underneath the hood before a fire occurs. But fires can also occur without warning.
Dealers will inspect the oil separator and replace it if necessary.
