Chevrolet has issued a recall for 317 Bolt EV hatchbacks from model years 2022 through 2023 because their passenger’s side airbags may not deploy properly in an accident.
Chevrolet tells federal safety regulators, “The instrument panels in these vehicles may have been manufactured without the perforation on the underside of the panel cover that allows the passenger-side airbag to properly deploy.”
The company says it knows of no accidents or injuries related to the problem, which a supplier identified. Note that this recall covers the Bolt EV, but there are no indications of fault in the related Bolt EUV model.
Dealers will replace the suspect instrument panels to fix the problem. By law, recall repairs are always free.
Manufacturers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. Automakers try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair. But they rarely reach them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. Check the easy VIN tool at our recall center to find out if your car is one of them.
