General Motors has issued a recall alert for about 23,000 SUVs that can stall due to faulty fuel pumps. The recall affects some, but not all, 2021-2022 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain SUVs.
GM says that a supplier “implemented an unauthorized change” to the fuel pump design, resulting in some SUVs being built with improper pumps. The pumps can shut down unexpectedly, causing the engine to stall while in motion or preventing the car from starting in the first place. Drivers might notice a check engine light as the problem develops, but it can also come without warning.
Dealers will replace the fuel pump to fix it. Recall repairs are always free.
