Recall Alert: BMW i4, iX

2022 BMW i4BMW has issued a recall alert for about 3,400 electric vehicles that can fail to generate a pedestrian warning sound when backing up. The recall applies to 2022-2023 models of the i4 eDrive40 sedan and iX xDrive50 SUV.

Because electric vehicles (EVs) operate in near silence, laws require them to make certain sounds to warn pedestrians of their approach at lower speeds. Both of BMW’s new EVs sometimes fail to make the required noise while in reverse.

Dealers will fix the issue with a software update. However, as the cars cannot receive it over-the-air, owners will be asked to bring the vehicles in for a quick update.

The fix, as always with recall repairs, comes free of charge.

Many cars are recalled to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. While automakers try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair, they rarely reach them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. To find out if your car is one of them, check the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
