Recall Alert: Audi Q4 e-tron, Q4 Sportback e-tron

The new Audi Q4 electric vehicleAudi has issued a recall for about 5,000 electric vehicles (EVs) because their side curtain airbags may be ineffective.

Recalled models include the following:

Airbags deploy almost instantly with the help of tiny, contained explosions. Audi tells federal safety officials that when the side curtain airbag in these EVs deploys, it can deform the door seal around it and expose metal. That metal could tear the airbag as it deploys, rendering it ineffective as a cushion.

Audi is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem, which was discovered during routine safety testing.

Audi thinks the solution could be very simple. Dealers will install cloth tape “to secure the door seal in place.” Recall repairs are always free.

Manufacturers attempt to contact every owner, but they don’t always reach them all with the news. Find out if your car has any outstanding repair orders at our recall center.
