Recall Alert: 2024 Porsche Taycan

2024 Porsche Taycan in Ice Grey.

Porsche has issued a recall for 954 Taycan electric cars from model year 2024 because their parking lights may not be programmed to comply with U.S. law.

There appears to be little safety risk to drivers. Porsche explains, “There is no loss of low beam, high beam, turn signal, or hazard functionality.” But when the driver activates a turn signal while the parking lights are on, the lights perform “behavior intended for other markets” that don’t comply with U.S. safety standards.

Documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration don’t explain the “behavior” in question. Different countries sometimes have widely varying laws regarding car headlights.

Until recently, manufacturers couldn’t sell their most advanced headlights in the U.S. because of federal law. That has changed, but apparently Porsche still programs lights differently for different markets.

Because it’s a program issue, Porsche has an easy fix ready. Dealers will update the headlight software to fix the problem.

By law, recall repairs are always free.

Automakers try to reach every owner with recall notices, but some always slip through the cracks. That leaves millions of Americans driving cars with safety defects they could get repaired free of charge. Find out if your car has any unaddressed recalls at our recall center.
