The problem, Kia tells federal safety officials, is that a small rubber diaphragm inside the brake booster system can slip out of place and cause an internal pressure leak. The problem only affects models manufactured before Feb. 16, 2023. Kia changed the inspection procedure at the factory on that date to prevent the issue.
Dealers will fix the issue by inspecting the brake booster and replacing it if the diaphragm seems loose or misaligned.
