Recall Alert: 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid

Honda has recalled just 98 CR-V Hybrid compact SUVs from model year 2023 because a problem with their high-voltage batteries can cause them to lose power and could trigger a fire.

The company tells federal safety regulators, “Due to manufacturing variations, some battery cell negative terminals within the Li-ion battery module were produced with inadequate copper cladding residual thickness.” That can allow aluminum and electrolytes in the battery to touch.

Over time, that can break the terminal or busbar. “If the negative terminal or busbar breaks, users will be unable to drive the vehicle. If the breakage occurs while the battery is energized, a spark may occur, increasing the risk of a fire, crash, and/or injury,” Honda says.

Honda says it hasn’t seen this happen to a customer’s car. But a supplier found the problem during an inspection and flagged that it was possible.

So dealers will replace the battery module to avoid it.

Carmakers try to notify the owners of recalled vehicles, but those efforts aren’t always 100% effective. To check if your car is part of a recall, try our easy VIN check tool in our recall center.
