Vantage Mobility, which converts vans for wheelchair access, has recalled 644 Toyota Sienna minivans from model years 2023 and 2024 equipped with rear-entry wheelchair conversions because of a suspension problem.
The company tells federal safety regulators that a weld in the trailing arm mounts for the rear suspension can develop stress fractures and fail, collapsing the rear suspension.
The company will replace the suspension parts with an upgraded version, which should solve the problem. By law, recall repairs are always free.
Automakers recall many cars every year. They do their best to reach every owner, but they don’t always have accurate contact information for them all. Carmakers continually tell us they have a persistent problem with owners ignoring recall notices. That can leave millions of us driving cars in need of free, urgent safety repairs.
