Recall Alert: 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe

The 2023 Jeep Cherokee $xe 30th anniversary editionJeep is recalling about 12,500 Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUVs from the model year 2022 because their engines can shut down unexpectedly.

The problem, the automaker tells federal safety officials, is “a loss of communication between the transmission control module and the hybrid control processor.” Jeep says it shuts down the engine, which “can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.”

The company knows of no accidents but “seven customer assistance records, 10 warranty claims, and six field reports potentially related to this issue.”

Since software triggers the problem, Jeep can fix it with a software patch. But drivers must bring their vehicles into the dealership to receive the fix.

Many cars are recalled, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Find out whether your vehicle has any outstanding recalls with the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
