Jeep is recalling about 19,000 2021 Cherokee SUVs to replace hoses in the vehicles’ transmissions. “The transmission oil cooler hose may have been incorrectly cured, allowing transmission fluid to leak,” the manufacturer explains.
Jeep is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem. But, it cautions, “Transmission fluid leaking from a hose may contact a competent ignition source and lead to a vehicle fire. A vehicle fire may increase the risk of injury to occupants and persons outside of the vehicle, as well as property damage.”
Only about ten percent of the recalled vehicles actually have the defect. But Jeep isn’t sure which vehicles they are, so it will inspect them all. Dealers will replace any suspect hoses free of charge.
This is the second recall for the 2021 Cherokee. Jeep called the vehicles back earlier to repair an issue with the front suspension. It’s not unusual for vehicles to be recalled more than once. And, though automakers try to reach every owner, they don’t always succeed. Don’t risk driving around in a car with a known defect — see if your car has ever been recalled at our recall center.
