Kia is recalling more than 80,000 Sedona minivans from model years 2015 through 2017 because an electrical fault can cause the turn indicators to signal the opposite of what the driver sets them to signal. The problem happens intermittently – sometimes the turn signals work correctly; at other times, they flash on the wrong side of the car.
Drivers do get a sign that the blinker is wrong. When the wrong signal flashes on the outside of the car, it also flashes on the dashboard. But, since few of us think to check that our turn signals are doing what we told them to do, the potential for an accident should be obvious.
Kia dealers will download new software that should correct the problem. Recall repairs are always free. Owners who believe they’ve been in an accident caused by the defective turn signal may be eligible to have repairs reimbursed.
Many cars are recalled, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Find out whether your car has any outstanding recalls with the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
