Kia has issued a recall order for most 2012-2013 Optima sedans because some headliner panels may come loose in an accident and become projectiles. The recall affects every Optima built in the U.S. between August 12, 2011, and September 27, 2013.
In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Kia explains that the factory may have attached some headliner plates with insufficient adhesive. If the side-impact airbag deploys in an accident, it can detach them.
Dealers will fix the problem by applying new adhesive. Owners who have already paid to complete this repair may be eligible for reimbursement.
Recall repairs are always free. Manufacturers attempt to contact every owner, but they don’t always reach them all with the news. Find out if your car has ever been recalled at our recall center.
