Land Rover is recalling 2010-2013 Range Rover Sport and 2010-2016 Land Rover LR4 SUVs to fix a defect that can cause gasoline to leak from the fuel tank.
In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Land Rover explains, “Customers have reported fuel odor, the amber Malfunction Indicator Lamp on the Instrument Cluster illuminating and occasionally liquid fuel on the ground. On investigation, dealer technicians are finding that the fuel outlet flange mounted in the fuel tank is cracked.”
The company has not reported any fires caused by the defect.
Dealers will replace the fuel outlet flange with a redesigned part. Owners who have already paid to have similar repairs performed may apply for reimbursement.
Automakers recall many cars, often years after they are first sold, to fix safety defects. Recall repairs are always free. Automakers try to reach all owners with the news, but it’s not unusual for drivers to miss a notification. Rather than risk driving a vehicle with a known problem, check our recall center to see if your car is eligible for any free repairs.
