Range Rover has recalled 20,999 Evoque SUVs from model years 2021-2025 because their passenger airbags may tear as they deploy.
The company blames improper folding for the problem. An airbag that tears as it unfolds will not adequately cushion occupants in a crash. It could also cause burns, as the gases that expand to fill an airbag in an instant are very hot.
Range Rover says it has received no claims of accidents or injuries related to the problem. Engineers uncovered it in routine testing.
Dealers will replace the airbag module to solve the problem.
