Ram TRX Price Jumps Nearly 10%

2021 Ram 1500 TRXCar shoppers are accustomed to seeing prices go up year-to-year. And everyone knows Americans have an unquenchable thirst for high-performance trucks. But this is still an eye-opener on a Monday morning. The 2022 Ram TRX will cost nearly $6,500 more than the near-identical 2021 model.

For the uninitiated, the Ram TRX (insiders call it the T-Rex) is a high-speed version of the popular Ram 1500 full-size truck. All-new last year, it takes a different approach to the idea of a sport truck than the Ford F-150 Raptor you probably think of when you hear the term high-performance truck.

The Raptor is mostly a package of every imaginable suspension enhancement. Its 450 horsepower is nothing to be ashamed of. But it hasn’t beaten up a muscle car and stolen its engine.

The TRX has. Under the hood, it carries a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 making an astonishing 702 horsepower. Pair that with some suspension and chassis upgrades, and the carnivorous Ram is the fastest factory truck built today.

Last year, it cost $70,425.

This year, the same dinosaur will start at $76,880.

Even the destination price has gone up. Buyers must tack $1,795 on to that price — $100 more than last year.

The TRX, we should note, is an extremely low-volume truck. Ram sold every one it could build easily in 2021 and will no doubt do the same in 2022. But buyers will have to lay down about 10% more to drive one home – even before the dealer markup that usually comes along with an in-demand vehicle.

Buyers looking for a high-performance truck may have a less-expensive option soon, though. Ford has announced plans to bring its smaller Ranger Raptor to the U.S. for the 2023 model year.
