- A 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty covers Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, Chassis Cab trucks, and ProMaster vans.
- Planned to end Jan. 2, the segment-leading warranty extends through the whole 2026 model year.
- The warranty applies only to the original owner and does not apply to fleets.
Ram has extended its 10-year/100,000-mile truck powertrain warranty throughout the 2026 model year, the truckmaker announced Tuesday. The industry’s best truck warranty was set to expire on Jan. 2, 2026, but Ram decided to extend it based on customer demand and dealer feedback.
“It was an overwhelming response from customers and dealers,” Nick Cappa, Ram’s director of communications, told KBB.com.
With the average new car price hitting record highs last year — and again flirting with the $50,000 mark last month — and owners taking on record loan terms of six and even seven years, many owners are still paying for their new vehicle when the factory warranty expires.
“It eases the minds of our customers to know the warranty still exists while they’re still making payments,” Cappa explained. Ram’s original powertrain warranty was five years or 60,000 miles, though diesel trucks had five years or 100,000 miles of coverage.
The warranty period at least doubles that of rivals from Ford and GM, and exceeds the powertrain warranties of electric rivals such as Rivian and Tesla. Only Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, and Mitsubishi offer 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranties, but none of those brands sell full-size trucks that typically get more use than passenger vehicles.
What Is — and Isn’t — Covered
The powertrain warranty applies to the normal wear and tear occurring in the engine, transmission, transfer case, driveshaft, differentials, and axles for 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. It covers the light-duty Ram 1500, the 2500/3500 heavy-duty trucks, the 3500/4500/5500 Chassis Cab, and ProMaster vans. The RHO performance truck and 2500 Power Wagon diesel are covered, but the warranty excludes the ProMaster EV.
The announcement did not explicitly mention the 2026 Ram 1500 REV (formerly called the Ramcharger) extended-range electric vehicle, which was scheduled to launch early this year. It may launch as a 2027 model. The 777-horsepower 2027 Ram TRX is not covered by the extended powertrain warranty because it is a 2027 model.
Both retail lease and purchase vehicles qualify, but fleet purchases are excluded from the warranty. The downside of the warranty is it only applies to the original owner, so it is not transferable.
All 2026 Ram trucks and vans also have a 3-year/36,000 bumper-to-bumper warranty as well as a 3-year/unlimited mile perforation warranty.
