Ram 1500 REV: Production Truck Much Tamer Than Concept

The 2025 Ram 1500 REV seen from a low front angleRam this weekend revealed its long-promised 2025 Ram 1500 REV electric pickup. The production truck doesn’t look much like the concept truck the company unveiled last month.

Most Innovative Concept Ideas Seem To Have Been Cut

That concept was a radical rethinking of the possibilities of the pickup truck form. It included seating for six across three rows. Folding jump seats behind the second row didn’t look long-trip-comfortable, but they’d let you carry six in a pinch. It included a midgate – like a tailgate in the middle of the truck, and it would let drivers carry objects longer than the bed by fitting them between the seats and even into the front trunk. And it was sleek, with sporty, aerodynamic lines.

The production truck wears the same unique tuning-fork style front lighting as the concept truck. Otherwise, it looks remarkably like the current Ram 1500.

Performance Details Under Wraps

Ram has revealed few details about the truck. Instead, the automaker has released a some photos and a humorous double-entendre Super Bowl commercial in which actor Jason Jones of “The Daily Show” fame discussed the fear of “premature electrification,” interspersed with interviews with couples talking about the fear of not performing.

Performance details, including range and charging times, remain strictly under wraps. But Ram has begun accepting reservations for the truck for a $100 fee at www.ramrev.com/. The website promises the Ram 1500 REV is “designed to set the bar in terms of capability, range, towing, and payload.” But it includes no details about capability, range, towing, or payload.

The interior of the 2025 Ram 1500 REV

Interior shots show a larger central touchscreen than today’s Ram 1500, with a small entertainment screen set in front of the passenger. But otherwise, the design theme seems remarkably close to that of today’s gas-powered Ram trucks.

Electric Trucks Growing More Common

We expect it to reach the first customers in late 2024. That will make the Ram 1500 REV one of the last of this first round of electric trucks to reach the market.

The Ford F-150 Lightning, GMC Hummer EV pickup, Rivian R1T, and Lordstown Motors Endurance have all begun appearing in customer driveways. General Motors also plans a Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV for the 2024 model year, and reports out of Tesla suggest that its long-delayed Cybertruck may begin production this year.
