Porsche wants dealers to stop selling some models of its 718 series sports car, issuing a recall order for those already sold. The problem could lead to engine failure and a vehicle fire. The order affects 190 cars, all from model year 2021. Only 20 of the vehicles are in customer hands.
Cayman, Boxster, and 718 Spyder models with flat 6-cylinder engines are subject to recall. The cars may have a faulty connecting rod that can crack and disable the engine.
Porsche dealers will replace the entire engine for the 20 sold units, and inspect the rods in those still sitting on dealership lots to determine whether they need repair. The company is not aware of any accidents or fires from the problem.
