Porsche only recently introduced the first Cayenne Coupe—really, a 4-door fastback—and now it is further fleshing out the lineup with a new mid-range offering, the Cayenne S Coupe. In both price and performance, the S slots between the base Cayenne Coupe and the mighty Cayenne Turbo Coupe.

How much will the 2020 Porsche Cayenne S Coupe cost?

Pricing for the Cayenne S Coupe is $88,600, versus $75,300 for the standard Coupe and $130,100 for the Turbo (all prices before $1,250 destination). Dealers are taking orders now with deliveries set to begin this fall.

What engine is in the Porsche Cayenne S Coupe?

Power comes from a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6—the same engine found in the standard-body Cayenne S—paired with an 8-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Output mirrors that of the regular Cayenne S, neatly splitting the difference between the other two Cayenne Coupe models. A total of 434 horses are on tap (versus 335 for the base Cayenne Coupe and 541 for the Turbo) along with 405 lb-ft of torque at 1800 rpm. That output is sufficient to send the squat-bodied Porsche SUV to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds (4.6 with one of the optional Lightweight Sport Packages), versus 5.7 seconds for the base model and 3.7 for the Turbo.

Similarly, the Cayenne S Coupe’s top speed of 164 mph falls between the base version’s 151-mph terminal velocity and the Turbo’s 178 mph.

What's the difference between a Cayenne and a Cayenne Coupe?

Like its Coupe stablemates, the S features a roofline that’s nearly an inch lower than the standard-body Cayenne’s and a slightly wider rear track under resculpted rear fenders.

There’s also a lower rear seating position, a panoramic glass roof, and a more steeply raked windshield and rear liftgate. The standard rear spoiler extends by 5.3 inches at speeds above 56 mph. The default rear seating configuration is two bucket seats but a 3-person bench is a no-cost option. Porsche’s Sport Chrono Package also is standard.

As in the other Coupes, the S offers three different Lightweight Sport Packages that include special styling tweaks inside and out, a carbon-fiber roof, 22-inch GT Design wheels (replacing the standard 20-inch alloys), and in a nod to classic Porsches, houndstooth cloth seat inserts.
