Porsche Adds 2022 911 GTS to Model Lineup

Porsche has unveiled the GTS version of its 2022 911 sports coupe and convertible. The GTS arrives in dealerships early next year, but you can place your order now.

If you’re not familiar with the full taxonomy of Porsche 911 trims, we can’t blame you. We also can’t help you unless you have a LOT of free time to read. The Porsche model configurator lists – and we’re not exaggerating – 22 trim levels for the 2022 model 911. They range in price from $101,200 to $219,800 before you start adding options.

Added Performance, But Not Supercar Horsepower

But the GTS is fairly easy to understand. It slots about into the center of that stable and includes most of the performance features you can get on a 911. But it lacks the startlingly powerful engines you get when you step up to the Turbo and GT models. It’s, arguably, the fastest 911 you can treat as a daily driver.

The Carrera GTS comes in rear-wheel drive with an all-wheel drive (AWD) option and carries a sticker price of $136,700, plus a $1,350 destination charge. A ragtop Cabriolet version is available for $149,500. A Targa version – Porche’s compromise between coupe and convertible — features a retractable roof panel and costs a good deal more at $156,800 and is available only in AWD.

Power for the 2022 GTS comes from a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat 6-cylinder engine (yes, Porsche sells a car called the 911 Turbo, but all 911s now have turbos. Remember, 22 trim levels. Twenty-two! Not kidding). The GTS puts out 473 horsepower – 30 more than the base model. The engine mates to a 7-speed manual transmission or PDK dual-clutch automatic.

It carries much of the equipment of the Turbo model, including upgraded brakes and its sportier suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management standard. It sits 10 mm lower than the base model Carrera. In reducing weight, Porsche also removed some of the sound deadening material found on lower trims, so the GTS should growl angrily.

Black Highlights to Set it Apart

Inside, Porsche’s well-bolstered Sport Seats Plus are standard, along with the GT Sport steering wheel. Outside, black accents separate the GTS from other 911s. Porsche says, “elements painted in black silk gloss include the spoiler lip, the center-lock alloy wheels, the engine cover louvers, and the GTS script on the doors and rear of the car,” as well as the Targa model’s thick rear roof support.
