- EV builder Polestar will release a compact electric SUV, the Polestar 7, in 2028
- It will likely share many parts with the upcoming Volvo EX60
Electric vehicle (EV) builder Polestar will launch its seventh model in 2028, the company announced.
The Polestar 7 will be a compact premium SUV sharing components with a yet-to-be-identified Volvo.
The company announced late last week that it will build the vehicle in a Volvo-owned facility in Slovakia.
Some automakers use a numerical naming scheme to show the increasing size and luxury of their vehicles. A BMW 7 Series, for instance, is larger and more luxurious than a 5 Series, which is larger and fancier than a 3 Series.
Polestar’s numbering scheme refers simply to the order in which cars were released. The Polestar 7 will be smaller and, presumably, less expensive than the Polestar 2 sedan, Polestar 3 SUV, and Polestar 4 SUV coupe on sale today. Polestar will use the number 5 for a planned Grand Touring car, and 6 for a lovely hardtop roadster.
Polestar spun off from Volvo and has traded as an independent company on the Nasdaq exchange since 2022. However, it still shares some facilities and many parts with its former parent company. We anticipate that the Polestar 7 will share much of its architecture with Volvo’s planned EX60 compact electric SUV.
