North American Car of the Year Semifinalists Announced

The all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning pickup drives down a forest trailTen cars, three trucks, and 13 sport utility vehicles will vie for the titles of 2023 North American Car, Truck, and SUV of the Year.

The awards are given in January, but a list of semifinalists was announced this week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. They range in price from the $23,650 Honda HR-V to the luxury Mercedes-Benz EQE electric sedan at more than three times that price.

Eleven of the 26 are electric. One, the Toyota GR Corolla, is a performance-oriented machine you’re as likely to see on the track as in the grocery store parking lot.

A jury of 50 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada vote on the awards, including our own Allyson Harwood.

The current title holders include the 2022 Honda Civic, Ford Maverick, and Ford Bronco.
