- Nissan aims to take its high-performance NISMO brand from five models to 10 by 2028.
- In the U.S., we currently get just two.
Nissan is in the midst of a transformation plan meant to rescue it from several years of slowing sales. The plan will include a new emphasis on motorsports and high-performance cars.
In a presentation this week, the company said it will “double the number of cars available globally” from its NISMO high-performance brand, from five to ten.”
NISMO – short for Nissan Motorsports – builds high-powered trim levels of Nissan cars. They traditionally get more powerful engines, sport-tuned suspensions, and a unique look with a tracing of red all around the car, low on the bodywork.
In the U.S., the company currently sells just two. The NISMO Z adds 20 horsepower, along with track-day features such as an oil cooler, Recaro brand Alcantara racing seats, and slick summer tires.
The new NISMO Armada has 35 more horsepower than the standard Armada full-size SUV, along with suspension tweaks and a roofline spoiler.
The company hasn’t specified which vehicles will receive NISMO editions, and we don’t expect all 10 to be available in the U.S. They may also incorporate input from other performance shops. The company says it “will actively consider collaborations with external partners to expand its NISMO car lineup business.”
Nissan nearly negotiated a merger with Honda early in 2025.
