Although exact timing of the changeover remains uncertain, General Motors announced that production of the next-generation Chevrolet Camaro will be transferred from the Oshawa Assembly in Ontario, Canada, to the Lansing Grand River (LGR) Assembly Plant in Lansing, Michigan, which is currently home to the Cadillac ATS and CTS models. Citing lower capital investment and improved production efficiencies, GM said the move was part of a comprehensive business case and that it would continue to meet production targets agreed to with the Canadian and Ontario governments that were made during the company’s 2009 restructuring.
The Camaro is currently the only rear-drive model in the automaker’s lineup to roll off of the flexible-manufacturing line at the Oshawa facility, which currently also assembles the Buick Regal and Chevy Equinox and will turn out the new Cadillac XTS and Chevrolet Impala. A Canadian-built exercise since it returned to the Chevrolet lineup as a 2010 model, the Camaro is expected to undergo its next full makeover for the 2015 or 2016 model year.
