Next Porsche Cayenne EV Will Offer Wireless Charging

The 2026 Porsche Cayenne Electric Vehicle (EV) demonstrates its wireless charging feature
  • Porsche will introduce a next-generation Cayenne electric SUV later this year
  • It will have the option of wireless charging

You pull into the garage and hop out. Your Porsche instantly begins refilling its battery. No need to plug in –- it gets power wirelessly from a pad on the floor.

Yes, it’s a vision of the future – but of the relatively near future. Porsche used last week’s Munich auto show to tease the long-expected arrival of the 2026 Porsche Cayenne EV, “planned for the end of 2025.” It includes an unexpected feature — optional wireless inductive charging.

The company explains, “The new, all-electric Cayenne will be the first Porsche model that can be ordered with the optional inductive charging floor plate as an option.”

It uses a wireless receiving unit in the underbody between the front wheels and a base plate you place where you park most often. You’ll need to have an electrician wire it in, but many EV buyers already do that with a home Level 2 charger. “To initiate the charging process, the Cayenne only has to be parked above the floor plate.”

Wireless Charging will be available for next gen Porsche Cayenne.

The system works at 11 kW, slightly higher than the typical Level 2 home charger.

It must be within six inches to work, and the vehicle will lower itself to the necessary height.

This isn’t the world’s first wireless charging system. Hyundai’s Genesis luxury brand debuted its own in South Korea four years ago.

But it could be the first to reach America. Porsche says the option will launch first in Europe, but “other markets around the world will follow.”

The technology could someday go much farther. The Michigan Department of Transportation has tested an in-road charging system that could wirelessly charge vehicles as they drive.
