Electric cars remain more expensive to buy than their gas-powered counterparts, though prices are coming down. But many Americans are eligible for discounts from the federal government, state governments, and even cities and electric utility companies.

The federal government provides its own tax rebate of up to $7,500 on many electric vehicles (EVs), subject to price and income limits.

Finding them all can be a challenge.

A new tool makes that easier. The nonprofit Electric For All has created a new EV incentive search tool that tells you which federal, state, and local incentives you qualify for. Simply enter your ZIP code to find them.

Electrek explains, “The site covers incentives for 49 states [Montana is missing], every metro area with a population of 50k or more.”

It includes incentives for cars and home chargers. We would note that it does not search utility companies. But your electric company is happy to see you turn your gasoline spending into more electrical spending. Most will point you to their own incentive programs if you call.
