- Mopar and its partner Mek Magnet are selling ugly holiday sweater decorations for Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators.
- They’re not permanent and must be applied under specific conditions, but you can do it yourself.
We love cars with personality. Yes, your car is a major investment, and it makes sense to be cautious with the costliest things you own. However, you can sometimes express yourself inventively through your car without making permanent changes that could affect its resale value.
Sweaters, for instance. You could wrap your Jeep in an ugly holiday sweater.
Mopar (the factory-affiliated aftermarket parts brand for many Stellantis products) and its partner Mek Magnet have created ugly holiday sweaters for Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models.
They’re made of Mek Magnet’s Trail Armor. Mek describes Trail Armor as “advanced heavy-duty but lightweight ballistic resin” panels that affix to the exterior of your car to protect it from dings and scratches when off-roading. It’s “designed to stay on for years,” the company says, but is removable.
That’s key with the ugly sweater line (we’re not being judgmental – that’s what the company calls these patterns). It looks fun to drive around in for the holidays, but you likely wouldn’t want it on the car in June.
The package of panels costs $648 for the Wrangler and $818 for the Gladiator, if purchased from Mopar. They’re slightly less expensive if you order directly from Mek Magnet.
This Sweater Must be Kept Warm and Dry
- They must be installed in warm conditions and kept dry.
You can install them at home, but only under specific conditions. Mek says they can only be installed in an environment between 65°F and 85°F, and must remain dry for the first 48 hours.
Notably, they are “Not rated for exposure to freezing rain, melting snow, or wet winter slush unless panels are fully bonded and edges remain dry,” the company says. It may be rather challenging to keep the edges dry in freezing rain, melting snow, or wet winter slush.
They may not stay bonded below 15 degrees.
So, these may be limited to temperate regions.
