Mitsubishi Teases Next Outlander

Mitsubishi has provided a glimpse – and we mean that quite literally – of the next generation of its Outlander SUV. A photograph of the car in heavy shadow reveals…well, not much. But the car appears to hew close to a concept Mitsubishi brought to the auto show circuit in 2019 and will bring a bold new look to the brand.

Prominent, curving vertical lines of chrome separate the headlights from the enlarged grille, making almost an hourglass shape. The headlights appear dramatically separated from thin, slit-like daytime running lights above. Overall, the vehicle seems larger and more truck-like than the outgoing model, which has been on the market since 2014.

Mitsubishi design chief Seiji Watanabe says the model “is the first model epitomizing the new generation of Mitsubishi design and the frontrunner of our design strategy.”

Mechanical specifications haven’t been released yet, but the Outlander will probably carry a Nissan-derived 4-cylinder engine as standard equipment. The current Outlander is also available as a plug-in hybrid model. We don’t expect the automaker to drop that from the lineup.
