This year’s annual Race to the Clouds at Pikes Peak will take place on June 29th and Mitsubishi is the first manufacturer to show what it plans to bring to the 92nd running of this legendary event. Heading its entry sheet is a comprehensively redesigned version of the car that finished second and third in the EV Division in 2013. To again be driven by two-time Dakar Rally champ Hiroshi Masuoka and motorcycle-racing ace Greg Tracy, the latest all-wheel drive Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution III promises to be even more formidable on every level than its Evo II predecessor.

Total output of the MiEV Evolution III’s four electric motors – two at each axle – has been bumped from 536 to 603 horsepower and that motive force will be sent to each tire via an enhanced version of the automaker’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. In addition to all-new, wind tunnel-optimized front bodywork and rear spoiler, Mitsubishi also redesigned the entire frame of the Evolution III to trim mass and add rigidity.

"Pikes Peak is an excellent laboratory for testing our advanced MiEV (Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle) technology," noted Don Swearingen, executive vice president Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. "It not only features high elevations but also a range of weather conditions to challenge the performance and reliability of our technology."
