Mitsubishi Shows Off 2023 Outlander PHEV

The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) looks just like the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander, plus a contrast-color black roof. That doesn’t sound like news, but the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander look quite different. The news here is that the more efficient version is catching up.

The Outlander PHEV goes on sale early next year. This year’s model starts at $36,695, plus a destination and handling fee of $1,195, and we don’t expect much of a price increase.

Mitsubishi released an all-new Outlander for 2022. With three rows of seating and a plethora of high-tech goodies in the cabin, it’s a big step up from the model it replaced. Note the image below is the Japan domestic market version in right-hand drive.

The company offers a plug-in hybrid Outlander for the 2022 model year, but it’s based on the old model. The PHEV is finally getting an update, about a year behind the schedule its gas-powered sibling followed.

Mitsubishi will reveal performance details and what’s in the standard equipment list in a few weeks. For now, what they’ve sent is just a photo and a few details.

The PHEV shares the same look as the gas Outlander but with a black contrast-color roof that adds sophistication. Hybrid badges on the doors leave no doubt which version you’re looking at.

Mitsubishi also revealed that the PHEV will come standard with three rows of seating. It will have a larger battery than the outgoing model, making it capable of longer distances under electric power before the gasoline engine kicks in.
